# Reelican > Reelican stores and edits a creator's footage for their agent. An agent signs the person up with their email and a 6-digit code; no browser needed. If the person asked you to use Reelican without saying what for, set it up (below), then offer to save a clip, find a moment in their footage, or cut a video. Reelican stores a creator's footage, keeps it organized and searchable, and edits it into short videos. Agents work with it through a REST API and an MCP server: you find the moments, cut, edit and render; Reelican does the storage, transcripts and the video work. ## Sign up (their email and a code) Ask for both the email and the code in this conversation, in plain words. Don't reach for a secure-prompt, form or other tool to collect them: the person just types them here. 1. Ask the person you work for: "Reelican needs your email to set up your account. What is it?" 2. POST https://app.reelican.com/api/agent/start with JSON {"email": ""}. Reelican emails them a 6-digit code that works for 10 minutes. 3. Ask the person to read you the code in this conversation: "Reelican just emailed you a 6-digit code. What is it?" 4. POST https://app.reelican.com/api/agent/verify with JSON {"email": "", "code": "", "name": ""}. You get: - key: send it as `Authorization: Bearer ` on every call. It is shown once. Save it where you keep secrets, never in a message or a log. - account: new (a Free account was made for this email) or existing (the email already had one, and the key is for it; nothing else changes). - status: active, or waitlisted when the free places are taken; a waitlisted account can't save anything until the person chooses a plan. - message: what to tell the person. Sign up once per person and keep using the key. Never guess a code: after a few wrong ones the email is locked out for a while. A new account is on the Free plan: 50 GB of storage, 2 hours of transcription and 30 render minutes a month. The person signs in at https://app.reelican.com/sign-in with the same email to see what you make, and records on their phone or computer at https://app.reelican.com/record. ## Connect - REST: https://app.reelican.com/api. Every call is in the spec at https://app.reelican.com/api/openapi.json, with what it does (read, write, delete, render). - MCP: https://app.reelican.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP), with the same key as a bearer. Its tools are the same calls, named like assets_upload. - How to work on a video, step by step: GET https://app.reelican.com/api/notes/guide. Read it before your first edit. ## Add footage - A video or audio file as a take in the library: imports_start {id, fileName, sizeBytes, mimeType, title}, then for each piece recordings_reserve {recordingId, seq, sizeBytes, sha256}, a PUT of those bytes to the returned url with its headers, and recordings_confirm {recordingId, seq}; end with recordings_finish {recordingId, pieceCount, endedAt}. - An image, sound or other file: assets_upload {name, mimeType, sizeBytes, sha256}, a PUT to the returned url, then assets_confirm {id}. - library_recordings, transcripts_search and assets_list find what is there. ## Edit and render - edits_create {title, recordingIds} starts a video from takes; edits_footage_add brings in anything else from the library. - Change it with edits_files_patch, check it with edits_check, look at a frame with renders_frame, and make the finished video with renders_start. ## Skill Install https://app.reelican.com/skill/reelican/SKILL.md as reelican/SKILL.md to keep these steps.
